Department of Redundancy Department

I am out here on the road for another week.   I have spare guitar cables, spare batteries, spare strings, lots of underwear, sox, shirts, etc.   But I only have one pair of glasses.

Even though I have another pair at home that I use for watching television, I didn’t bring them with me because I rarely watch TV on the road.

Needless to say, the stem simply broke on my only pair of glasses.   So I have been holding them on my head by expanding my nose.   Not an easy exercise, I must say.

I went to the optometrist in the little village near my pal Peter’s place, but my high fashion (I can’t help it) frames were too much for him.  That and the fact that I foolishly showed up in an IMPEACH BUSH sweatshirt, were the deciding factors.

I am now sitting in another optometrist’s office in Manchester, CT, but I’m wearing a cashmir sweater this time and things are going swimmingly.

He has found a matching stem for only slightly more than I paid for the glasses and I should be fine when I finally pay it off.

So my point is, when you are on the road, you may not have time to drive around Connecticut looking for optometrists, or opticians I suppose is a more accurate description?

So be redundant across the board when you are traveling.   Extra toothbrush, extra lenses if your are contactable…you get it.    What you want to do is only have to focus on why you are out here.

And that would be about the gig.

You don’t want to have to spend precious time you could be recharging or experiencing something or someone wonderful, just driving around looking for some mundane thing you could have taken with you.

Whatever you have one of, make sure you have two.

The old saw about “if anything can go wrong, it will”  is real.   Try to think of every eventuality and do something to address it back home, before you get out here.

You’ll thank me in the end.
